Lasting Impressions 2D & 3D Casting FAQ’s

Where do I get my hand or feet casts done?

We can call to your home in order to take impressions for hand or feet casts, we will bring all materials with us and examples of frames and mounts, if you wish to call to us please make an appointment using the contact details on the website.

How quickly can I get my framed cast or jewellery?

It usually takes between 4-6 weeks for framed casts and 2-4 weeks for jewellery but it will take longer at busy periods such as Christmas, Valentines etc..

How long does the casting process take?

Taking an impression for either 2-D casts or 3-D casts or for fingerprint jewellery only takes a few minutes but also allow time for discussing your framing and mounting options etc..most appointments take approx. 30 mins.

Can I get a cast on its own and have it framed or mounted myself?

All our casts come mounted and framed as part of the cost, we have a choice of 4 high quality wooden frames and a large choice of card mounts which we feel best highlights the work and therefore casts are not available on their own.

How do I get a drawing or writing put onto a piece of jewellery?

If you have the original artwork then it is best scanned into a computer not photocopied, you can e-mail the scanned image to us or bring us the original artwork and we can discuss options as to whether it is suitable for use or not, dark images and thicker lines work best and we use an exact reproduction of the original to create your piece. In order to get hand or footprints onto jewellery we will need to take a print from your hand/foot using a special inkless wipe.

What material is the jewellery made from?

All pieces are made from Fine Silver which is 99.9% silver and not to be confused with Sterling Silver which is an alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. Fine silver is softer than sterling silver and will mark and scratch easier because of its nature. All attachments, jumprings, etc..are Sterling silver. All pieces are entirely hand made and each piece is unique.

How do I care for my jewellery?

Fine Silver is much softer than Sterling Silver and will mark easier over time, all silver will tarnish if not looked after but you can help prevent tarnish and damage with a few simple steps. Always remove jewellery before using household detergents/chemicals or going swimming or showering as the detergents and chemicals can damage silver. Store all jewellery seperately to prevent scratching and store in airtight bags or in a jewellery box to prevent tarnish. Use a good quality jewellers cloth regularly and wipe after each wear with a soft cotton cloth.
